Please save the date for a very special event from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on 1 June 2023 at Aloft Hotel Kathmandu.
Open to the public, we are planning a unique evening of film and discussions with the families of Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Lord Hunt as well as other celebrity Nepali mountaineers.
Rt Hon Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand and Patron of the Himalayan Trust, will be our special guest.
A special film compilation is being prepared by adventure filmmaker Michel Dillon. It will feature not only footage from the original historic 1953 Everest expedition in which Ed Hillary and Tenzing Norgay first reached the summit, but also an Everest climb by their sons, Peter Hillary and Jamling Tenzing 50 years later as recorded by National Geographic In Return to Everest.
Peter and Jamling will be with us on stage to discuss the legacy of Everest, along with Sue Leyden the daughter of the 1953 leader, John Hunt. There will be a chance to ask questions, and to mingle with them after the programme.
The evening is arranged in association with Nepal Tourism Board NTB, Nepal Mountaineering Association NMA, Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal TAAN, Expedition Operators Assoc EOA and Himalayan Rescue Association HRA.
Registration will be essential as space is limited, and QR codes will be available online from 1 March 2023 on a first come first served basis, powered by CheckOut Nepal.
